Birch et al reported criteria for families that had a hereditary cancer syndrome resembling the Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) but not meeting its criteria. The authors are from multiple hospitals in England.
Patient selection: failure to meet the classic criteria for Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS)
Criteria - all of the following:
(1) proband with one of the following:
(1a) any childhood cancer
(1b) sarcoma, brain tumor or adrenocortical carcinoma diagnosed when < 45 years of age
(2) one first or second degree relative with a typical cancer for LFS diagnosed at any age
(3) one first or second degree relative in the same lineage (as the patient in item 2) with any cancer diagnosed when < 60 years of age
Malignancies associated with LFS (see also previous section) include:
(1) sarcoma
(2) breast cancer
(3) brain tumor
(4) leukemia
(5) adrenocortical carcinoma
