Description

Arslan et al listed criteria for making the diagnosis of a complicated urinary tract infections (UTI). This can help to identify a patient who may need more aggressive management. The authors are from Baskent University and Ankara Numune Education and Research Hospital in Turkey.


 

Subjects in study: adults 18 to 65 years of age

 

Criteria for a complicated UTI – one or more of the following:

(1) male gender

(2) pregnant female

(3) > 3 episodes of UTI in the past year

(4) pyelonephritis (upper UTI)

(5) urinary abnormality

(6) urinary catheter

(7) history of a urological operation

(8) urolithiasis
