Rome IV listed criteria for the Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS).
Criteria for the diagnosis of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS):
(1) stereotypical episodic vomiting that resembles cyclic vomiting syndrome
(2) onset after prolonged excessive cannabis use
(3) remission after sustained cessation of cannabis use
where:
• There appears to include natural cannabis and synthetic cannabinoids.
• For adverse drug effects one criteria is reappearance of finding if causative agent restarted after a period of abstinence.
The criteria also include a time component (onset >= 6 months before diagnosis; symptoms for last 3 months or more). This temporal component could result in false negative diagnoses.
Supportive findings:
(1) prolonged bathing behavior (prolonged hot baths or showers)
