Patient selection: not specified but presumably has evidence of inflammatory cardiomyopathy
Criteria for the diagnosis - >= 1 first degree relative with >= 1 of the following:
(1) diagnosis of inflammatory cardiomyopathy has been established
(2) unexplained sudden death or stroke before the age of 50
(3) major and/or minor echocardiographic or electrocardiographic criteria met (see table)
where:
• Criterion 2 would seem to have false positives.
Major criteria:
(1) left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) >= 117% of predicted
(2) fractional shortening (FS) < 25%
Minor criteria:
(1) LVEDD 113 to 116% of predicted
(2) FS 25 to 27%
(3) pericardial effusion
