Description

The Calgary Health Region in Canada has listed criteria for the diagnosis of acute postpartum urinary retention.


 

Criteria - both of the following:

(1) >= 1 catheterization within 24 hours after delivery

(2) 1 or more of the following reasons for the catheterization(s):

(2a) The patient has not voided by 6 hours after delivery.

(2b) The urinary bladder volume is >= 500 mL.

(2c) The patient experiences an urge to urinate but is unable to do so.

(2d) The patient is able to void small amounts of urine but has been unable to void completely.
