Description

Post-Pancreatectomy Hemorrhage (PPH) may be graded as mild or severe.


Criteria for mild hemorrhage - all of the following:

(1) drop in hemoglobin (preoperative minus postoperative) concentration < 3.0 g/dL (small to medium volume of blood loss)

(2) no or minimal clinical impairment with no clinical signs of significant hemorrhage

(3) no need for invasive intervention (interventional angiography, re-operation, endoscopy)

(4) responds to fluid resuscitation and transfusion of <= 3 units of packed red blood cells

 

The clinical response to significant hemorrhage includes tachycardia, hypotension and/or oliguria.

 

If any of the criteria for mild hemorrhage was not met, then the patient was classified as having severe bleeding.
