Prosthetic aortic valve regurgitation can be classified based on a number of objective parameters.


Patient selection: prosthetic aortic valve

 

Conditions: normal or near normal stroke volume (50-70 mL)

 

Parameters:

(1) valve structure and motion

(2) left ventricular size

(3) jet width of central jet on Doppler

(4) jet density on continuous wave Doppler

(5) jet deceleration ratee

(6) left ventricular outflow versus pulmonary flow on pulsed wave Doppler

(7) flow reversal in descending aorta on pulsed wave Doppler

(8) circumferential extent of paraprosthetic regurgitation

(9) regurgitant volume in mL per beat

(10) regurgitant fraction in percent
