Description

The response of a patient with malignant lymphoma can be classified based on criteria that were presented at the 12th International Conference (2013) for Malignant Lymphoma in Lugano, Switzerland.

Patient selection: malignant lymphoma, Hodgkin's or non-Hodgkin's disease

A complete response may be classified based on:

(1) PET-CT based response, also known as the metabolic response

(2) CT based response, also referred to as the radiologic response

The PET-CT scan would not be relevant if the lymphoma did not show FDG-avidity.

Criteria for a complete PET-CT based response - all of the following:

(1) FDG uptake with one of the following:

(1a) score <= 3 on 5-PS with or without residual mass

(1b) uptake at sites with high physiological uptake or after drug-induced activation less than or equal to that of surrounding normal tissue

(2) negative FDG-uptake in bone marrow

(3) no new lesions

Criteria for a complete CT based response - all of the following:

(1) maximum diameter of target node or nodal mass <= 1.5 cm

(2) no extranodal sites

(3) normal size of previously enlarged organ(s)

(4) normal bone marrow with negative immunohistochemistry

(5) no new lesions
