There is confusion as to what constitutes a mass shooting.
Criteria - all of the following:
(1) death of 4 or more people, excluding the perpetuator
(2) the deathsare due to a firearm
(3) the deaths occurred within a short period of time in a public place
(4) does not meet an exclusion
Exclusions:
(1) terrorist act
(2) familicide
(3) gang-related
Points of confusion:
(1) mass killing using method(s) other than a firearm
(2) referring to mass shooting with people shot vs mass killing (mass murder) with people killed
