A person with an addiction may experience very strong cravings for one or more substances. It can trigger a relapse in use.
Cravings refer to a strong and powerful urge to eat, drink or use a substance. Usage at that point may be poorly controlled and followed by psychic relief.
Cravings may be experienced for:
(1) a cigarette
(2) a specific food (chocolate, pizza, etc)
(3) alcohol
(4) previously abused substance
Cravings may:
(1) seem irresistible
(2) be conditioned
A person may be more susceptible to cravings:
(1) during withdrawal
(2) when tired, lonely or stressed (vulnerable)
(3) when re-exposed to a previous usage situation or companions
