Description

In calculating red cell survival, the observed survival must be adjusted for the amount of blood sampled during testing if that amount is high.

corrected survival rate as a percent =

= (observed survival as a percent) * (100 / (100 - (percent of blood volume taken in samples)))

percent blood volume taken in samples =

= ((volume of blood sampled in mL) / (blood volume in mL)) * 100

If the equations are combined:

corrected survival rate as a percent =

= (observed survival as a percent) * ((blood volume in mL) / ((blood volume in mL) - (volume of blood sampled in mL)))
