The Spanish guidelines for COPD (GesEPOC) recognizes high and low risk categories for a patient with COPD.
Patient selection: stable COPD
Criteria for high-risk COPD - one or more of the following:
(1) FEV1 less than 50% of predicted
(2) dyspnea >= 2 on the modified MRC dyspnea scale (from 0 to 4) while on treatment
(3) >= 2 outpatient exacerbations during the previous year
(4) >= 1 exacerbations requiring hospitalization during the previous year
If the patient had none of these findings, then the patient is classified as low-risk.
