Eating road kill can either be done out of necessity, out of tradiation or as a fad. It is associated with some level of health risk.
People who tend to eat road kill:
(1) poor with limited resources
(2) no other food source
(3) fad
Hazards may include:
(1) rabies
(2) parasites (toxoplasmosis, trichinella, other)
(3) botulism
(4) Salmonella or Yersinia
(5) Brucella
(6) leprosy (with Armadillos)
The risk of eating roadkill cannot be completely eliminated. It can be reduced by:
(1) eating only a fresh kill
(2) careful inspection
(3) careful handling
(4) thorough cooking
(5) experience in preparation
