Description

A rough conversion can be done for DNA or protein if the number of picomoles or micrograms is known and the size of the macromolecule.

1 µg of 1,000 base pair DNA is approximately 1.52 pmol DNA

1 pmol of 1,000 base pair DNA is approximately 0.66 µg DNA.

1 pmol of 10,000 MW protein is approximately 0.01 µg protein.

1 µg protein of a 10,000 MW protein is approximately 100 pmol protein

As the number of base pairs of DNA or molecular weight of protein change, there is a directly proportional change in the conversion. For example,

1 pmol of 50,000 MW protein is approximately 0.05 µg protein.

1 µg of 50,000 MW protein is about 20 pmol protein
