Description

Viable Bacillus Calmette-Guerin/Connaught (BCG) organisms may be instilled into the urinary bladder of a patient with urothelial carcinoma. This results in an inflammatory response which is associated with elimination of tumor cells.


 

Indication: non-muscle invasive urothelial carcinoma (in situ or superficially invasive into the lamina propria)

 

Absolute contraindications:

(1) major hypersensitivity reaction to any component of the product

(2) immunosuppression

(3) immunodeficiency (congenital or acquired)

(4) radiation cystitis

 

Relative contraindications:

(1) less than 14 days since the last biopsy, transurethral resection (TUR) or traumatic catheterization

(2) active urinary tract infection (can be given after treated)

(3) fever due to an infection (can be given after treated)

(4) active mycobacterial infection (tuberculosis, BCG)
