Description

The construction, inspection and maintenance of an airplane may involve confined space entry.

Hazards:

(1) jet fuel

(2) other fluids (hydraulic, other)

(3) electrical current

(4) cleaning and maintenance fluids

(5) sloping walls and floors

(6) fire

(7) sharp edges

(8) temperature extremes

Entry into a fuel tank is particularly hazardous since the fuel may have vaporized and oxygen may be depleted.

A person making the confined space entry should be in communication with the outside monitoring who can initiate rescue if a problem arises.
