A number of conditions may mimic true lid retraction.
Conditions that may mimic lid retraction:
(1) exophthalmos
(2) high axial myopia
(3) congenital glaucoma
(4) congenital cystic eyeball
(5) asymmetrical orbit
(6) shallow orbit
(7) shallow orbit with arched superior and lateral wall (Harlequin deformity)
(8) ptosis of contralateral upper eyelid
