Venospasm may occur in a number of situations

Conditions associated with venospasm:

(1) trauma to the vein

(2) exercise-associated venous compression

(3) intravascular catheterization

(4) drug infusion

(5) contrast venography

(6) poliomyelitis

(7) microvascular surgery

(8) Raynaud’s disease

Trauma to the axillary vein may occur during work or exercise if there is a sudden abduction of the arm causing contact of the vein with the subclavius muscle.
