Description

Synophrys (confluence of the 2 eyebrows across midline) may occur as a feature of a hereditary disorder or it may occur as a normal variant.


 

Synonym: unibrow

 

Hereditary disorders with synophrys:

(1) 3p deletion syndrome

(2) 3q duplication syndrome

(3) Hirschborn-Cooper syndrome (chromosomal partial deletion)

(4) trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome)

(5) partial trisomy 15 syndrome

(6) Cornelia De Lange syndrome

(7) basal cell nevus syndrome (Gorlin syndrome)

(8) frontometaphyseal dysplasia

(9) Labard syndrome

(10) Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (cerebrohepatorenal syndrome)

(11) Waardenburg syndrome

 

Synophrys occurs also as a variant in people with normal cytogenetic studies.
