Description

Hyperopia may be caused by a number of conditions.


Named syndromes with hyperopia:

(1) Aarskog-Scott Syndrome

(2) Adie Syndrome (tonic pupil)

(3) Best syndrome (vitelliform dystrophy)

(4) Down syndrome

(5) Gorlin-Chaudhry-Moss syndrome

(6) Kenny syndrome (nanophthalmos with hyperopia)

(7) Lever congenital amourosis

(8) Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome

(9) Sorsby syndrome (hereditary macular coloboma syndrome)

 

Conditions associated with acquired hyperopia:

(1) aphakia

(2) diabetes mellitus

(3) drugs (especially sulfa derivatives)

(4) flat cornea

(5) hypoglycemia

(6) ophthalmoplegia with paralysis of accommodation

(7) macular edema

(8) orbital tumor

(9) status post surgery to correct myopia

(10) presbyopia

(11) botulism

(12) ocular trauma causing posterior dislocation of the lens, macular edema or contusion of the ciliary body.
