Description

Eosinophilic panniculitis is a panniculitis where the histologic sections show increased numbers of eosinophils. This may go unrecognized unless a biopsy is examined microscopically.


The clinical presentation depends on the cause, with localized conditions presenting as a nodule.

 

Most common causes:

(1) gnathostomiasis

(2) erythema nodosum

(3) leukocytosclastic vasculitis

 

Other causes include:

(1) arthropod bites

(2) bacterial cellulitis

(3) injection granuloma

(4) toxocariasis (visceral larva migrans)

(5) non-Hodgkin's lymphoma

(6) myelodysplastic syndrome

(7) allergic contact dermatitis

(8) eosinophilic cellulitis
