Cerebral salt wasting (CSW) is a disorder that may be better called renal salt wasting (RSW) secondary to cerebral disease.
Conditions associated with cerebral salt wasting:
(1) subarachnoid hemorrhage
(2) neurosurgery involving the central nervous system
(3) head trauma
(4) intracranial neoplasm (primary or metastatic, meningeal carcinomatosis)
(5) meningitis
(6) encephalitis
