Description

The philtrum is the midline area of skin between the base of the nose and the upper lip. Normally this area shows a vertical groove which may range from shallow to deep. Several conditions may be associated with a smooth skin surface and no evidence of a groove.


Conditions associated with a smooth philtrum:

(1) fetal alcohol syndrome

(2) Cornelia de Lange syndrome

(3) Floating Harbor syndrome

(4) geleophysic dysplasia

(5) Opitz syndrome

(6) toluene embryopathy
