Description

Aneurysms of the coronary artery are relatively uncommon. They may be caused by a number of conditions.


 

Conditions associated with coronary artery aneurysms may include:

(1) Kawasaki syndrome

(2) systemic lupus erythematosus

(3) Wegener’s granulomatosis

(4) microscopic polyangiitis

(5) polyarteritis nodosa

(6) polycystic kidney disease

(7) status post percutaneous coronary intervention with or without stent placement

(8) spontaneous arterial dissection (may be associated with cystic medial degeneration)

(9) atherosclerosis

(10) venous varicosities

(11) trauma

(12) infection (syphilis, Salmonella, etc)

(13) congenital malformation

(14) Behcet’s disease

(15) cocaine abuse

(16) Takayasu arteritis

(17) Marfan syndrome

 

Kawasaki syndrome is a common cause of coronary artery aneurysms. It may be associated with coronary artery aneurysms diagnosed in adults following an infection that occurred many years before during infancy.
