Dang et al identified prognostic factors for a patient with a severe odontogenic infection. These can be used in a conditional inference tree to identify the risk of requiring multiple oral surgeries. The authors are from Universite Clermont Auvergne and CHU Clermont-Ferrand in France.
Patient selection: severe odontogenic infection
Predictors on admission of a complex evolution:
(1) penicillin allergy
(2) psychiatric disorder
(3) oropharyngeal edema
(4) edema of the floor of the mouth
(5) trismus
(6) fever
(7) elevated serum CRP in mg/L
(8) alcohol abuse
(9) mandibular molarinvolved
(10) immune depression
Parameters for the conditional inference tree:
(1) serum CRP in mg/L
(2) immunodepression
(3) penicillin allergy
(4) mandibular molar
(5) psychiatric disorder
