• experience a frequent preoccupation with buying or shopping?

• experiences impulses to buy that are experienced as irresistible, intrusive and/or senseless?

• frequently buy more than can be afforded?

• frequently buy items that are not needed?

• shop for longer periods of time than intended, unable to stop?

• caused the patient excessive distress?

• consumed an excessive amount of time?

• interfered significantly with social or occupational functioning?

• resulted in financial problems?

Does the maladaptive buying occur only during periods of hypomania or mania?
