Giraldez et al developed a composite laboratory index (LI) which provides prognostic information that is complemetary to the TIMI Risk Score. The index can help to identify patients who may require more aggressive management. The authors are from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Parameters:
(1) hemoglobin in g/dL
(2) creatinine clearance in mL per min (derived with the Cockcroft and Gault equation)
laboratory index =
= (15 - (hemoglobin)) + ((100 - (creatinine clearance)) / 8)
Interpretation:
• minimum index: < 0 (with high hemoglobin)
• maximum score: > 20
• The higher the index the greater the mortality.
