Description

Hepatolithiasis is associated with a number of complications. These can be significant if the hepatolithiasis is severe and long-standing.


Complications of hepatolithiasis:

(1) biliary stricture

(2) bacterial cholangitis with or without sepsis

(3) liver abscess

(4) stone migration with pancreatitis

(5) secondary biliary cirrhosis

(6) malignancy (cholangiocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma)

(7) portal thrombophlebitis

(8) complications of hepatectomy to cure (bile leak, hemorrhage, etc)

(9) hemobilia
