Description

A person who has been tasered may suffer a range of complications.


Patient selection: recently tasered

 

Complications may include:

(1) cardiac arrhythmia

(2) seizures

(3) bleeding

(4) fall injury

(5) miscarriage (if pregnant)

(6) visual impairment following ocular penetration, including blindness

(7) penetration into brain or other an internal organ or structure

(8) aspiration pneumonia

(9) testicular or penile trauma

(10) phalangeal fracture

(11) facial trauma (frontal sinus, ethmoid bone, etc) and scarring

(12) possibly rhabdomyolysis (need to exclude other causes, especially excited delirium)

(13) pneumomediastinum or pneumothorax

(14) deterioration in comorbid condition
