Description

Although toning shoes ("rocker bottom", "rocker sole") shoes may benefit many patients, some people have developed problems as a result of their use. The curved soles of the shoes may contribute to gait instability.

Complications include:

(1) tendonitis in the lower extremity

(2) pain anywhere in the lower extremity

(3) ankle sprain or instability

(4) piriformis syndrome in patients with knee osteoarthritis

(5) vertigo

(6) fall injury

(7) fractures (stress, post-fall, other)

A person should carefully weigh the risks of injury before purchasing or wearing these shoes.
