Description

Paget's disease of bone may be associated with a number of complications, which may become more significant with longer disease duration and greater disease activity.


 

Complications may include:

(1) joint dysfunction with pain, stiffness, limited range of motion and narrowing of the joint space

(2) bone pain

(3) bone deformity

(4) fracture

(5) nerve compression syndrome

(6) spinal cord compression

(7) deafness

(8) vascular compression with or without vascular steal syndrome

(9) hypercalcemia and hypercalcuria

(10) high output heart failure

(11) malignant tumor (osteosarcoma, fibrosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, giant cell tumor of bone, malignant lymphoma)
