Pubic hair grooming may be done by males for a variety of reasons. It can result in a number of complications if not performed properly.
Reasons for pubic hair grooming:
(1) to increase sexual attractiveness
(2) to reduce spread of pubic lice
(3) trichotemnomania
Complications:
(1) skin cuts
(2) skin abrasions, rashes or friction burns
(3) skin allergic reaction
(4) trauma to genitals
(5) infection
(6) pseudofolliculitis corporis
(7) pruritis
(8) increased risk of sexually-transmitted disease (related to increased sexual activity)
Risk factors for injury:
(1) intoxication
(2) use of a razor or knife without safety features
(3) use of other inappropriate shaving implements
(4) shaving an area in poor lighting or poorly visualized
(5) hurrying
