Panniculectomy after bariatric surgery can improve the quality of a patient's life. A number of complications can occur following the surgery.
Complications:
(1) surgical site infection
(2) seroma
(3) reoperation/re-exploration
(4) hematoma
(5) skin breakdown/necrosis
(6) wound dehiscence
(7) blood transfusion
Risk factors for complications:
(1) greater body mass index prior to the panniculectomy
(2) diabetes mellitus
(3) smoking
(4) age > 65 years
(5) partial or total dependence in ADL
(6) experience of the surgeon and clinical team
