Description

A metal dust may be combustible and sometimes explosive.

Combustible metal dust includes:

(1) aluminum

(2) lead

(3) magnesium

(4) niobium

(5) potassium

(6) sodium

(7) tantalum

(8) titanium

(9) zirconium

The risk of fire occurs:

(1) finely ground dust

(2) airborne and mixed with oxygen

(3) an ignition source (which can include static electricity)

A combustible dust mixture has the potential of exploding. Explosions can also occur if the dust comes into contact with incompatible materials (peroxides, chlorates, disodium acetylide, chlorine trifluoride, sodium carbide, fused ammonium nitrate).
