Description

Lymphomatous polyposis (LP) may occur in the large intestine with several forms of malignant non-Hodgkins lymphoma.


 

Features:

(1) There are large numbers of small polyps in the large bowel.

(2) The polyps may extend into the terminal ileum.

(3) Polyps may also be present in the stomach or proximal small bowel.

(4) The heads of the polyps consist of mucosa covered foci of lymphoma.

 

Malignant lymphomas that may cause LP:

(1) mantle cell lymphoma

(2) follicular center cell lymphoma

(3) MALT lymphoma

(4) large cell lymphoma

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) familial adenomatous polyposis

(2) reactive lymphoid polyposis in the rectum
