Description

A color party is a group gathering where people cover each other in a variety of colors. One way of preparing the colors is to use food dye to color cornstarch powder. Unfortunately, under certain circumstances the cornstarch dust can be combustible.

Risk factors for a cornstarch dust explosion:

(1) dry

(2) in a fine powder

(3) suspended in the air as a cloud

(4) at or above the explosive limit

Inhalation injury can occur if a person is within the dust cloud when it ignites.
