Description

Some astronauts develop a mild cognitive deficit that may be referred to as space fog or the space stupids.


Clinical features:

(1) The person has a history of space travel.

(2) There is evidence of impaired cognitive function not present prior to the space travel.

(3) The changes cannot be explained better by an alternative diagnosis.

 

Functions that may be impaired include:

(1) coordination and visual motor tasks

(2) logic reasoning

(3) short-term memory retrieval

(4) long-term memory tasks

(5) performance of processes requiring attention
