Matutes et al reported a simple score for the diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) based on immunofluorescent membrane markers. The authors are from the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research in London.

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 5
• A score of 4 or 5 is seen with CLL (seen in 87% of CLL patients).
• A score of 3 is possibly CLL (seen in 10% of CLL patients).
• A score of 0 to 2 is probably another diagnosis (0.4% score 0 or 1; 3% score 2).
