Parameters scored 2 points if present:
(1) cardiac failure
(2) respiratory failure
(3) recent stroke
(4) recent myocardial infarction
(5) acute infectious disease
(6) acute rheumatic disease
(7) malignancy
(8) myeloproliferative syndrome
(9) nephrotic syndrome
(10) history of venous thrombembolism
(11) known hypercoagulable state
Parameters scored 1 point if present:
(12) immobilization (less than 30 minutes of walking per day)
(13) recent travel > 6 hours
(14) age > 60 years
(15) obesity with body mass index > 30 kg per square meter
(16) chronic venous insufficiency
(17) pregnancy
(18) hormonal therapy including contraception
(19) dehydration

= SUM(points for all 19 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 30
• A score >= 3 is an indication for thromboprophylaxis.
