Description

Exposure to a total release fogger can result in a variety of signs and symptoms which depend on the manner of the exposure and the type of pesticides in the fogger. It is important to determine the type and amount of pesticide that a person has been exposed to.


 

Classes of pesticides that can be used in a fogger:

(1) pyrethrin

(2) pyrethroid

(3) organophosphate

(4) other

 

Signs and symptoms following an exposure may include:

(1) cough

(2) respiratory tract irritation

(3) dyspnea

(4) wheezing

(5) nausea and vomiting

(6) abdominal pain

(7) headache

(8) dizziness

(9) diaphoresis (sweating)

(10) weakness

(11) paresthesias

(12) ocular pain or irritation

(13) lacrimation

(14) skin erythema

(15) skin rash

(16) dermal irritation

(17) chest pain

(18) hypertension

(19) tachycardia

 

Causes of death:

(1) severe exposure

(2) severe comorbid disease (vulnerable patient)

(3) thermal burns or other injuries
