Clinical Predictive Score of Mahachai et al for Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease in a Patient with Prediabetes (MASLD) Pre-DM Score)
Mahachai et al reported a clinical predictive score for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in a patient with prediabetes. The authors are from Mahidol University in Bangkok.
Patient selection: pre-diabetic with metabolic syndrome
Parameters:
(1) fasting plasma glucose in mg/dL
(2) hemoglobin A1c in percent
(3) serum HDL cholesterol in mg/dL
(4) gender
(5) serum AST in U/L
(6) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 10.5
• A score >= 4.5 is associated with a higher risk for steatotic liver disease.
• Hepatic transient elastography may be performed on high-risk patients. It would not be helpful in the low-risk patient.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.80.
