Smith et al reported a clinical prediction rule for independent walking 1-year after spinal cord injury. This is based on a simple test in a single dermatome (S1). The authors are from the University of Colorado, University of Louisville, Stanford University, and the University of Udine (Italy).
Patient selection: spinal cord injury
Evaluation: lateral heel pinprick sensation on left and right heels within 31 days of the injury
Dermatome tested: S1
Outcome: independent walking at 1 year
