Lerthatasip et al reported a clinical prediction rule for recognition of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) in a child. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from a complete evaluation. The authors are from Thammasat University in Thailand.
Items:
(1) delayed speech for age
(2) history of rarely making eye contact or looking at faces AND usually looks another way when talked to
(3) history of not showing off toys or favorite things
(4) did not follow clinician's eye direction when called and signaled with eyes to look at things far away (poor response when clinician attempts to draw attention to something in the distance)
(5) low frequency of social interaction with clinician or caregiver in the room
