Description

Candida auris is an emerging yeast pathogen that has been found around the world.


Features of Candida auris:

(1) It is associated with invasive infections, especially in patients who are immunosuppressed.

(2) It may be misidentified by yeast biochemical reaction panels (as C. haemulonii or other species) or unidentified.

(3) The yeast may be resistant to multiple antifungal agents.

(4) It may be associated with nosocomial outbreaks.

 

Molecular methods may be necessary to positively identify an isolate.
