Pediatric leukemia can be of several types and follow different courses. The presence of multiple, unexplained findings should prompt consideration of the diagnosis.
Patient selection: from neonate to 18 years of age
Distinct clinical categories: 7
Infiltrative:
(1) hepatomegaly
(2) splenomegaly
(3) lymphadenopathy
Haemorrhagic:
(1) unusual bleeding including mucosal bleeding, bruising and petechiae
Infective:
(1) fever
Systemic:
(1) pallor (anemia)
(2) fatigue
(3) malaise
Musculoskeletal:
(1) limb pain
(2) bone pain
(3) joint pain
(4) limp
Gastrointestinal:
(1) anorexia and weight loss
(2) abdominal pain
(3) abdominal distension
Cutaneous:
(1) skin rash (cutaneous infilatration vs petechiae vs infection)
(2) skin nodules
