A patient with retroperitoneal fibrosis may present with a number of clinical or laboratory findings.
General clinical findings:
(1) pain in the abdomen, flank and/or back
(2) low-grade fever
(3) anorexia and weight loss
(4) fatigue
(5) constipation
(6) nausea
(7) myalgias
Lymphovascular findings:
(1) deep vein thrombosis
(2) claudication
(3) leg edema
(4) intestinal ischemia
Genitourinary findings:
(1) oliguria or polyuria
(2) dysuria
(3) hematuria
(4) in males: varicocele, hydrocele, and/or testicular pain
Laboratory findings:
(1) elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
(2) elevated C-reactive protein (CRP)
(3) elevated BUN and creatinine
(4) mild to moderate anemia
(5) positive antinuclear antibodies (ANA) and/or other autoimmune markers
