Description

Bromine (Br2) is a volatile, reddish-brown liquid with several industrial applications.

Uses: chemical warfare, bleaching agent, gasoline anti-knock agent, gold extraction, flame retardant.

General findings:

(1) dizziness

(2) headache

(3) fever

(4) myalgia with viral-like symptoms

 

Ocular findings:

(1) lacrimation

(2) chemical burns, usually of cornea

 

Gastrointestinal findings:

(1) irritation of mucous membranes

(2) abdominal pain

(3) diarrhea

 

Respiratory findings:

(1) dyspnea

(2) epistaxis

(3) upper respiratory tract irritation

(4) glottal spasm with choking

(5) cough

(6) acute pulmonary edema

(7) cyanosis

 

Skin changes:

(1) brown discoloration

(2) chemical burn with ulceration

(3) measles-like eruption
