Piperazine derivatives such as benzylpiperazine or trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine may be used as intoxicants, especially by adolescents or young adults who frequent dance clubs.
Sympathomimetic effects:
(1) hypertension
(2) tachycardia
(3) increased locomotor activity
(4) hyperthermia
CNS effects seen at high doses:
(1) hallucinations
(2) seizures
(3) respiratory depression
The drug may be mixed with MDMA or other drugs, which alters the clinical findings.
