A pediatric patient with intussusception may presence with a range of findings. This can make diagnosis challenging, especially if confounding factors are present.
Common clinical findings:
(1) intermittent abdominal pain
(2) palpable abdominal mass
(3) emesis/vomiting
(4) "red currant jelly stools" (stool mixed with blood and mucus)
Other findings:
(1) lethargy
(2) neurologic findings
(3) peritonitis
(4) hemodynamic instability
