Description

The prognosis for a patient with carcinoma metastatic to the meninges may be poor if certain findings are present.


 

Clinical findings suggesting a poor prognosis with meningeal carcinomatosis:

(1) poor performance status (ECOG 3 or 4)

(2) multiple fixed neurologic deficits

(3) bulky CNS metastases

(4) carcinomatous encephalopathy

(5) abnormal CSF flow

(6) widely metastatic cancer that responds poorly to therapy
